don't read this
Do not read this blog right now. Grant Achatz's web-based portion of his Alinea book is out. If you have pre-purchased the book... check your email for the password. If you have not already pre-purchased, now is the time. Mosaic, the web-site, will be updated regularly and is a pre-view of what we can expect from the actual book which will come out in the Fall. Let's hope that the website also has a feature which will archive material after it has been posted and changed.
Woo-Hoo!
The website won't have an archive, because it won't need one -- we don't intend to drop any content. We will continuous add to it over the next 5 months until the book comes out, and then after that as well. Right now we didn't include a sorting function (between recipes, demonstration videos etc) because the site is small -- but once we hit 20 or 30 tiles, then that will be automated.

Very cool, Mr. Kokonas.
The site looks good. It's a great introduction at this point.
It was also interesting to see some crucial details pieces that I have not previously seen.

OMG. I just cancelled my Amazon pre-order and opted to pay more for the one direct from Alinea. I didn't get my password yet. Where is it?!? I am so excited!!!

What do you mean, don't read this? As soon as I read this, I hit that site and placed an order. No hesitation. I can't even say how excited I am!

That has to be a common 'mistake' made by people looking to buy the book. One of my cooks originally told me a couple of months ago that he pre-purchased the book on Amazon for the low price of $30 something bucks. After analyzing the descript on the website, we realized that he was probably not going to get access to Mosaic... big mistake.
Keep in mind that it is not just the 'mosaic' portion of the book that makes it different. Chef Achatz took a completely different approach to the publishing of the book. If anyone had seen him discuss it at the Star Chefs 2007 ICC, they would remember that his book was a benchmark in chefs taking their book dreams into their own hands.
We should support such a great example by purchasing the book directly from the alinea book website.
